Abi has been instrumental in breaking down industry barriers towards cancer, illness and disability.

Today the company works with more than 500 destinations across the UK, sending more than 16,000 people per week on spa days and breaks. Throughout her career she has advocated for the spa industry and greater accessibility. She does this through her work as well as in her role as Chair of the UKSA (UK Spa Association) and on the board of the CEW (Cosmetics Executive Women).

Why the SATCC?

"In 2012 I received a call to my mobile, which was then the out of hours default line for Spabreaks.com. When I answered, I was greeted by a customer in tears. Her daughter had booked her a spa day through Spabreaks.com, but when she arrived at her destination and filled in her consultation form, she ticked ‘yes’ in the little box asking if she had cancer.  Her therapist unceremoniously sent her away, telling her they couldn’t treat her. I was horrified that we had unwittingly added to this woman's suffering, especially when I know that to be the antithesis of what spas are about.

Since then, I have come to realise that spa therapists have been as frustrated with those limitations as clients. I have been privileged to work with incredible people who have sought to change things. Spas are in a unique position to provide care, comfort and dignity when people are experiencing life changing challenges to their wellbeing. I am delighted to be part of the SATCC and a community that continues to strive for better."
